Newcomers

It looks like the "Future of our city" event has had some success in producing one of the results I was hoping for: newcomers.

Last Tuesday the Energy Group was showing a documentary, "Crude awakening". It was chosen because the daughter-in-law of one of the members of the group was involved in editing it. It turned out to be an extremely well done documentary and a very good explanation of peak oil. Among the usual lot, there was a new face, and he actually saved the day by getting a good pair of speakers. I had brought the projector, a laptop and a screen, but didn't bring any speakers with me.

Last Wednesday was the forum meeting, and surprise, surprise! The attendants were the Buddhist Engineer, me, and five new people. They all said that they knew of Transition before, and thought about checking what we were up to recently. I suspect it was because of the promotion of the event: probably most of them saw something about the event, couldn't attend, checked the website, and came to the forum meeting instead. The best of it all was that all of them looked like professional middle-class people, not mad hippies, but a very reasonable lot.

Things may be turning into the right direction, at very long last.
